dallas chicken & ribs @ upp cross street

we heard good reviews about this "new" fast food joint that sells fried chicken. Called Dallas Chickens & Ribs, the owner franchise this to singapore from Britain and with it, there is a slight british overtone to the interior decor. We ordered a 2-pc chicken set meal, chicken nuggets, onion rings and a can of root beer for $10 dollars. Not Very cheap but defintely better than KFC's for this amount of food. But how does it rate?

It takes a while for the order to come to your table because the onion rings, fries were cooked on the spot. They arrived, still piping hot and steaming. The fries are unsalted and comes with a packet of salt for you to decide how much salt you want. We ate it al naturale as we do not want to contaminate the taste of potato. Puddy commented that it tasted like MOS burger's fries, but smaller.

The onion rings ARE the best I've eaten so far. They are not only huge (as compared to burger king's), but far crispier on the outside and extremely tender on the inside. And it cost only $1.50. A must try.

The nuggets are not as tasty as the onion rings but they hold up on their own.

Fried food aren't healthy but I must say the chicken and the chicken nuggets are not as oily compared to the other fast food chains. The nuggets and the chicken did not leave smears of oil on the lips but perhaps because of this, it makes the chicken meet feels a tad bit dry and tough. It isn't as nice as what I've read on other reviews but it is definitely not bad and very very value for money if you want to indulge in fried chickens.

But do try the Onion rings. They are absolutely wonderful for $1.50

We reckon 12 upper cross street is a wrong place to set up a fried chicken store (same row of store house as hotel 81) which may be the reason why there are no one there at 7.30pm. We were the only customers until another 3 strolled in at 8.00pm

We like the place though, as it is quiet and comfortable for a nice inexpensive dinner outing.

So if you are a sucker for onion rings, cheaper fried chicken and a quite place to eat - go to Dallas. You won't be disappointed. I only wish they would serve Earl Grey though. It would be perfect after a sinful dinner like this.
